A oboe can be a quite versatile instrument with a long account behind it. The oboe has normally six strings, but some have four, 7, 8, ten, and even twelve strings. Regardless of the number of strings, it holds an fascinating place amongst musical instruments.

Yep. I really read that. It was one of those fake sites … but where the heck did they come up with that info? Weird.

  1. I wonder if the writer is referring to to a Dombro, a 4-8 string slide guitar from the early 40-’50s onward, or possibly a theorbo, a large baroque lute-like instrument with 14-18 strings used as a continuo instrument? But it is interesting to think that perhaps my oboe doesn’t always do what I want it to do is because it has NO strings (except the one wrapped around the reed…ah…and maybe there lies the problem.)

  2. One never knows with these mashed together articles, Bill! But yep, it’s all about the strings. Who knew?
